Setúbal, September, 2024 – We are thrilled to announce that the ONDEP Project, of which we are proud members of the consortium, has secured an impressive €19M in funding from the EU’s Horizon Europe program.

This significant support will drive the deployment of a groundbreaking wave energy array in Peniche, Portugal.

ONDEP (Ondas de Peniche) is one of the first pilot wave farm projects in Europe aimed at advancing wave energy technology and accelerating its commercial deployment across Europe and beyond. By leveraging cutting-edge technology and fostering international collaboration, ONDEP seeks to unlock the vast potential of wave energy, contributing to Europe’s transition to a sustainable, low-carbon future.

By 2030, ONDEP plans to unlock the potential for 11 wave energy farms across 8 countries on 4 continents, with a total cumulative capacity of 83 MW. Looking further ahead to 2035, the project aims to demonstrate a Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE) of less than 100€/MWh, paving the way for a sustainable blue economy. This could also lead to the creation of up to 500,000 jobs across Europe, reinforcing Europe’s leadership in renewable energy.

Coordinated by Queen’s University Belfast, the project includes 14 partners from across Europe. Etermar will be responsible for constructing the concrete floating foundations and the steel panels for the Wave Energy Converters (WEC), assembly the devices at its facilities and perform the technical support of the transportation and deploy on the seabed of WECs.

Etermar’s expertise in large-scale marine construction, along with its long-term strategic vision for sustainable growth, is instrumental in advancing the European supply chain for WEC manufacturing.
