Etermar Energia signs contract with Energetus for the expansion of the largest Data Center in the country

Portuguese company will be responsible for assembling 14 emergency power modules for the first phase of the SINES DC project

Setúbal, March ##, 2026 – Etermar Energia, a maritime engineering and structural manufacturing company for the energy sector, has just signed a contract with Energetus, Instalações Industriais, SA, a leader in the development and installation of energy projects, for the expansion of the SIN01 data centre, the first phase of the SINES Data Campus (SINES DC) megaproject,  led by Start Campus. The contract includes the assembly of 14 emergency power modules, designed to operate using renewable fuels such as Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO), contributing to a lower-emission backup power solution. This work will support increasing the capacity of the SIN01 data centre to 33MW, making it the largest in operation in Portugal.”

The contract, which represents a turning point in the company, expanding the range of operations in the energy sector, requires a high degree of technical specialization in the complex integration and assembly – electrical and mechanical – of energy modules, an area of increasing importance for the company and which adds value to its already proven capacity for prefabrication of steel and reinforced concrete structures. The execution of the project will benefit from the location of Etermar’s industrial facilities, whose proximity – as well as good road and sea connections – with the Sines campus optimize logistics and workflow.

This contract is a fundamental milestone for Etermar Energia. We are very proud of this opportunity and of being able to contribute to such an important project for the technological future of Portugal“, highlights Luís Machado, Executive Director of Etermar Energia. We face this challenge with a great sense of responsibility and as an excellent opportunity to demonstrate the quality of our engineering, as well as our ability to execute in a context that brings such transformative potential to the country.”

“The collaboration with Etermar makes us very satisfied in this demanding project. The selection of suppliers is extremely important to us, especially as this particular customer places great value on rigorous and timely execution. With the support of Etermar, we intend to fully meet these high demands.” also elaborates Bruno Lourenço, Sales Manager at Energetus.

The SINES Data Campus is part of a context of strong investment in the Sines region – which is asserting itself as one of the most important  digital hubs in Europe, positioning itself at the forefront of the digital economy. Start Campus represents the largest investment ever made in Portugal, with the overall campus investment estimated to reach  up to 10 billion euros, once all buildings are completed by Start Campus, to which will be added more investment by the end user infrastructure – such as the one publicly announced by Nscale and Microsoft. It should also be remembered that this will be the first time that the new Blackwell GPUs, from the North American NVIDIA, will be implemented in the European Union.

The expansion of SIN01 is just the beginning of the ambitious vision for SINES DC. The construction of the second phase, SIN02, with a planned installed capacity of 200MW, is expected to start in 2026, being a crucial step towards the ultimate goal of having six modular and independent buildings with a total capacity of 1.2 GW, –– which will make it the largest AI data centre campus in Europe.

This development is a pillar of high relevance for the country’s digital transition and reinforces Portugal’s ability to attract and develop cutting-edge technological projects with high added value.
